RevoLabs Xtag - $250
Our recommended microphone for classrooms, the RevoLabs Xtag is sometimes referred to as a "lipstick" mic due to its size and shape. It connects and charges via USB, requires no drivers and features excellent sound quality. Most importantly, the Xtag keeps you from being stuck behind a podium; just clip to your lapel, no wires. The Xtag is also suitable for desktop use on a personal computer. Item Details

Logitech Headsets
Though not suitable for Classroom use, Logitech headsets are an inexpensive, easy way to get quality audio at your desktop. There is a range of models available. Some to consider:

ClearChat Comfort USB - $40

Not their lowest cost model, but the lowest to include a Noise-Cancelling microphone, which is recommended. A solid basic model with no bells and whistles.

Premium Notebook Headset - $60

Featuring a slightly lower profile than the ClearChat, the two selling point of the Premium Notebook are its portability (it even comes with its own case) for times when mobility is important, and its connectivity options. The Premium can be connected through an analog microphone jack, or through USB using the included adapter.

ClearChat PC Wireless - $100

Don't let the name throw you, the ClearChat Wireless works on both PCs and Macs. This is Logitech's premiere headset and combines all the features of other models with 2.4Ghz wireless.

Connect your own microphone or use the excellent dual-capsule "T microphone" that is included. The MicroTrak II records to CompactFlash so recording time is limited only by the size of your card. We recommend the MicroTrak II, but only for users with specific needs that dictate its use and price.

Apple iSight - Free

Already using a MacBook, Macbook Pro or IMac? These Mac models have a built-in webcam that includes a microphone. It may not produce results that are as pristine as a dedicated solution, but you might be surprised at just how good iSight audio sounds. Give it a try before you decide to buy a standalone microphone.
